Watch: Doomsquad – Apocalypso

DOOMSQUAD is a Toronto-based art project made up of siblings Trevor, Jaclyn, and Allie Blumas. Following on from 2014’s Kalaboogie (Hand Drawn Dracula/No Pain In Pop) the band have announced a new EP titled Pageantry Suite due for release on May 25th via Bella Union.

The trio create experimental dance music that’s heavily indebted to trance and psychedelia. As interdisciplinary artists, the band brings a wide range of influences to bear throughout their work. From far-reaching global beats to the sounds of their local community, it’s all thoughtfully curated and channeled into a project of immersion and unity. The result is a mesmerizing sonic landscape of dynamic repetition. DOOMSQUAD constructs a contemplative space for deep listening, within the music and within yourself.

Xiu Xiu to perform at the Silent Movie Theatre + adds new live dates to Twin Peaks tour

The Cinefamily @ the Silent Movie Theatre in Los Angeles have invited Xiu Xiu to come along and perform an original score for Shiroda’s 1975 film ‘Under The Blossoming Cherry Trees’. This show will also feature a sneak peek of Mila Zuo and Angela Seo’s new short film exploring the dark undercurrents of Asian fetish, Carnal Orient. Feat. a score by Angela Seo. See HERE for more info.

Also, earlier this year experimental post-punk band Xiu Xiu were commissioned by the Gallery of Modern Art in Australia to provide a new interpretation of the music from Twin Peaks, emphasising its chaos and drama, for a special performance accompanying the David Lynch: Between Two Worlds exhibition. It was a great success and so the band decided to take the show on the road and have recently added two new dates in Moscow. See full list of dates HERE.

Band leader Jamie Stewart explains his love for the soundtrack by David Lynch and Angelo Badalamenti:

“The music of Twin Peaks is everything that we aspire to as musicians and is everything that we want to listen to as music fans. It is romantic, it is terrifying, it is beautiful, it is unnervingly sexual. The idea of holding the ‘purity’ of the 1950s up to the cold light of a violent moon and exposing the skull beneath the frozen, worried smile has been a stunning influence on us. There is no way that we can recreate Badalamenti and Lynch’s music as it was originally played. It is too perfect and we could never do its replication justice. Our attempt will be to play the parts of the songs as written, meaning, following the harmony melody but to arrange in the way that it has shaped us as players.”
