Jonathan Wilson announces new EP ‘Slide By’…

This Friday JONATHAN WILSON will release Slide By, a new EP featuring two new Wilson originals and three cover songs, as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday on November 28, 2014.

Slide By is a new 5-song EP from acclaimed artist producer Jonathan Wilson. The collection of songs is a diverse mix of Wilson-penned originals and hand-selected cover songs. Slide By is Wilson’s first release following his critically lauded sophomore album, Fanfare.

The work’s title track, “Slide By,” is an unreleased original and was recorded live with Wilson’s band during the Fanfare sessions. The EP’s other original, “Alpha Blondy Was King,” was written about one of Wilson’s favorite singers.

Slide By’s opening song, “Coming Into Los Angeles,” was originally written by Arlo Guthrie. “I’ve always loved this song and have wanted to do a revved up, fiddle-fired version for a long time” says Wilson when asked about why he chose the Guthrie track. Another cover on the collection is “Free Advice,” which was written by Darby Slick of Great Society and features Leslie Stevens on guest vocals.

The one song on the release that Wilson fans may recognize is Bob Welch’s “Angel.” This eight and a half minute version was recorded live during a session at Seattle’s KEXP radio station. According to Wilson, “We play this song live quite a bit but this version was recorded when we first started playing it and has a real spark and sense of spontaneity to it. It’s still wet behind the ears.”

All songs produced by Jonathan Wilson and engineered by Bryce Gonzales at Fivestar Studios in Los Angeles, California except “Angel”
