CSLSX & I Break Horses ‘Violent Sea’

Wednesday, February 29th, 2012

Ahead of their headlining show at London’s Scala on Sunday 1st April and an upcoming five week tour of the US as special guests of M83 (those dates below), I Break Horses & CSLSX share their collaborative effort ‘Violent Sea‘, which includes the first new work from the band since the release of debut album ‘Hearts’ in August 2011.

The video, which collates imagery from avant-garde filmmaker Maya Deren, is the perfect accompaniment to this new track and more than whets the appetite for further work from these two enigmatic bands (who are rumoured to be working on an EP together). Little is known about Philadelphia collective CSLSX, and Stockholm’s reclusive I Break Horses have only made a handful of live appearances to date, so if this track is anything to go by, this could be the start of something very special indeed…

I Break Horses will follow up their sold-out Cargo show with a new date at The Scala in April:

The show airs on March 2 from 7pm, and our shortlist can be found below. We want you to go and vote for which artist you think will be Tomorrow’s Cult Star Today over on our facebook. Andrew Bird – ‘Break It Yourself’
Streaming now on Drowned In Sound.

Break It Yourself, the new record from Andrew Bird is streaming now over at Drowned In Sound.

DiS has also posted an interview with Andrew. Here’s an excerpt from the piece, by Sam Cleeve; in which Andrew discusses his songwriting style -

I’ve always had a sort of strange relationship with pop music. I didn’t really grow up loving pop music, and I found a lot of pop songs to be repetitive, and full of clichés, and often insincere. So I would just avoid any references to hearts, or breaking hearts. And I thought: why can’t we talk about some other things, besides relationships? I mean I’ve always touched on things like that from the beginning, but it’s not a dominant theme. But hell, I mean there’s a reason why they’re clichés, right? Sometimes that’s called for. But you know, like the title of the record – it was really hard to come up with a title for it. I had a bunch of very typically poetic titles, and I was just like “I’m tired of this shit.” I just want to get to the point, you know?

Break It Yourself is released next Monday, March 5th, on Bella Union records. Andrew performs at London’s Barbican that same night.
