Bella Union X Record Store Day 2018
Bella Union Vinyl Shop is celebrating RSD 2018 with four special releases and a day of live music from several of Brighton’s finest new bands, at our home 13 Ship Street Gardens, Brighton BN1 1AJ. Very excited to say that the legend that is Stephen Mallinder from our very own Creep Show ( also Wrangler, and founding member of Cabaret Voltaire) will be behind the counter selling at various moments, and from midday Dog In The Snow and Penelope Isles will be performing live in the store. And maybe some other special guests will surprise us on the day too. More info on our RSD releases below…
Dirty Three – Whatever You Love, You Are
(2 x 180g Gold Vinyl, Remastered for listening pleasure)
We will continue to bring these gems by everyone’s favourite Australia-trio – Dirty Three – back into your life. This year the critically acclaimed ‘Whatever You Love, You Are’ gets a reissue.
Bella Union founder Simon Ramonde says of the re-issue… “This album has a special place in my heart as it was recorded at my studio back in July 1999. My old band Cocteau Twins rented it off The Who’s Pete Townsend and having our own studio at the start of the label meant we could let our bands make records there for next to nothing. Our in-house engineer Lincoln Fong recorded and mixed it and did a phenomenal job. I know the band feel the same about these recordings and it’s great to have it finally back in print.”
Tiny Ruins – Some Were Meant For Sea
(Limited Gold Vinyl + includes bonus track ‘Oldest Bar In Town)
New Zealand songstress Tiny Ruins releases her 2011 debut album ‘Some Were Meant For Sea’ on Bella Union. Never before released on vinyl in the UK the album, Some Were Meant for Sea exists in dappled warmness: Fullbrook’s striking vocal timbre conjuring a natural imagery born from earth and sea. Recorded in a diminutive hall, once the local school of South Gippsland, Fullbrook worked with producer J Walker (Holly Throsby, Machine Translations) & between the pair, some cello, violin, piano & accordion were added to the otherwise bare-boned songs, which were all recorded entirely live.
Laura Veirs – Fading Of Stars 7″
(7″ Ltd Edition Clear Vinyl)
Having released her new album ‘The Lookout’ to much acclaim last week, Laura Veirs will treat y’all to a very special 7” release this RSD. The vinyl features two of ‘The Lookout’s’ bonus cuts ‘Fading of Stars’ and a beautiful cover of Daniel Johnston’s classic ‘True Love Will Find You in the End’.
Our Broken Garden – When Your Blackening Shows…
(Limited White Vinyl + includes bonus track ‘Visible To You’)
It’s 10 years since the debut album from Danish dream pop band Our Broken Garden and therefore high time we figured that it had its first vinyl pressing. There’s a darkness and a vulnerability at the core of singer Anna Bronsted’s vocals on this album and in our shop in Brighton we’ve been asked about this record so many times “Is it ever going to get a vinyl release?” and now we can reply “Yes!”
