Up’n’coming Norwegian five-piece BROEN, one of Bella Union’s newest signings, are today pleased to share with you a performance video for their recently released track “<3”. While in the studio recording new material, they decided to film themselves performing a live version of the song and chose the videos blue filter to match the colours of the singles cover-art made by Heida (who plays tuba in the band) and Lasse Marhaug. According to the band “<3” “ is an inner dialogue. It is a conversation happening between two different parts of the self, the anxious, afraid and troubled part, and the part that needs to live life to the fullest and feel free, without anxiety, fear or baggage.” The lyrics are “similar to how someone would write to an ex- or present partner because, aren´t we our closest partner? We need to love ourselves to enjoy life, and we need to embrace all parts of the self and not dwell on the past.”
Broen have also announced details of two London live shows in late April as part of Music Norway’s Oya Nights. The second of the two shows, at Shoreditch House, is invite only, so feel free to hit us up! Dates/info below:
Tuesday 25th April – LONDON – Kamio
Wednesday 26th April – LONDON – Shoreditch House
8th August – 12th August – OSLO – Oya Festival
The band have already been championed by the likes of The Guardian, Consequence of Sound, BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne, and now Bella Union’s Simon Raymonde, who welcomes them to his label. Combining elements of R’n’B, rap, jazz, improvisation, psychedelia, dub and electronica, Broen ignore the usual genre conventions to create their own unique sound. They have built up a reputation of being one of Norway’s finest live bands, presenting something completely out of the ordinary. Sparkle-laden costumes and signature dance moves are rivalled only by their own live prowess and musicianship. They cannot be described by drawing lines to similar acts, but simply by drawing a line towards them.
